I think with this truly amazing album MetallicA can now be forgiven for St. Anger every song on this album is truly amazing and it truly is a 5 star album and the fact that it's a heavy metal album and it stayed top of the charts in the UK for 2 weeks straight says something!!!

Awesome. Short and sweet I know, but after the disappointments of Load, Reload and St. Anger to finally get a Metallica album worthy of the band I fell in love with back in the 80's is like mana from heaven. Buy it and hear for yourself a true metal band rediscovering the ability not only to write great songs but to play them as well.

I was taken to an office in Soho and a young lady put a CD on and told the assembled throng (3 of us actually) that this was the next AC/DC album. It could only be played once and we couldn't make notes or use mobile phones etc. Now I'd only gone out with my mate for a quiet drink and having beem lured into this office it was only fair that I listen.
And I was sort of impressed. I'm not a fan as such - just got the live albums as a sort of "best of" substitute (why have they never released a best of album?) so I can come at this one with what I hope is an unjaundiced view.
It rocks! Lets get that straight for a start. There are even some more thoughtful moments - the track Rock'n'roll dreams (I think) for one. The playing ... Read More:

Chad Kroeger is a song writing genious. Not, of course, for ANY of the right reasons, but because he has a truly remarkable ability to churn out some of the most pathetic songs ever recorded and still sell millions of records. For this he deserves credit - in the same way Hitler deserves credit for tricking Europe into allowing him to rise to power.
It is not an exxaggeration in any way to describe Nickelback as the worst band ever. Chad Kroeger is the most listener-insultingly abysmal lyricist that I have ever heard. Before you pre-pubescent fans jump to his defence, I have evidence, in the form of some lines from the album:
"She'd be pissed if she could see the parts of you that I've been kissing"

A rare review in that I won't even metion the music. Search the web and you'll find that this is the world's second best selling album ever (second only to Thriller). You don't need a review, you now know everything you need to know. If you're still reading this you simply need to get a copy of the album and catch up with the rest of the world - you can't fool a planet - it really is that good.

Having gotten fairly familiar with the album, then leaving it for a while to make sure it wasn't post-release enthusiasm, I can now honestly say that I believe this is the band's best effort since their debut. While every Slipknot album has its faults, even that oh-so-precious classic first assault, those on All Hope... are less immediately obvious, and certainly nowhere near as off-putting as they were on the previous two records. And unlike the previous two records, you'll find more to praise than dismiss.
For a start, I tend to skip on past previous singles "Left Behind" and "Vermillion Pt. 1", and mercifully, there is no such track on here. Sure, "Dead Memories" and "Snuff" rank amongst the bands less sonically abrasive material, but there is a certain maturity ... Read More:

Where do I start - I was looking forward to the release of Shogun, but having got my hands on it I am left distinctly under-whelmed. It just seems so bland compared to the previous three albums.
I don't buy into the criticism for sounding like Metallica at times - that is surely no bad thing. Perhaps it is that this album suffers so much in comparison to Death Magnetic - the two bands are not the same (or even really the same genre) but Metallica's latest offering is a real return to form whereas Shogun feels like a damp squib....none of the killer riffs o raw sounds that we have come to expect from Trivium.

With well over a hundred reviews for this album, why should I add another? There is nothing more to be said other than
1) When they next get together to get another series of 'Classic Albums - The Making Of' DVD's, this should definitely be one of them, and
2) Every 'serious' rock fan's collection should have this album, it is absolutely essential!!
Say No More!!

I have just got the box set recently, and have been enjoying it greatly. Not just that, my three daughters aged 9, 6 and 2 are great fans, and want to listen to it all the time in the car. And the two-year-old even says 'Rock' once she hears the first few bars of 'We will rock you'. Just goes on to show that Queen truly made ageless music, which still scores far above most contemporary music.

Not bad but not great. Ony half as good as first album. Some good riffs and ideas interspersed with disappointing rock hero/commercial/protracted choruses. I can almost hear the record company rep saying - "great first album but can't you make it more accessible? Something the kids will like and sing along to. Then we gonna hit the big time - think of the cash...Have a cigar..." Less Nickleback more Sabbath next album please. I have booked tickets for Oxford gig in December with the Answer - may get blown out by the supoport act.
