It's nice to receive a plesant surprise from time to time. I pre-ordered Jazzanova - Of All The Things Audio CD on Amazon.co.uk about a week ago. It came today, with an FBI warning at the back, guaranteed to be sent from the UK. The long established group from Berlin will officially release their new piece on October 27th. Nice! Half price, btw.
Crystal clear sound, original compositions for each song, exceptional vocals (my favourite is Phonte): all this makes Jazzanova one of the trademarks of German electronic scene and puts them right next to the godfathers OF ALL THE THINGS, Kraftwerk.
The new album is magnificent. If you like Jazzanova, you'll love it. If you don't know them and you like fresh brew of jazz and ... Read More:

Boundry busting Gilles girates his Technic for smiley faces...
CD1 foreward thinking house mix, starting out all soulful and vocal, then moving into his more trademark afro sound (with 4/4 this time though), then into jazzy house and deep techno. He gives the middle finger to his dissers that say he can't mix. Ok he's no Louie Vega or Sasha but he does a solid mix here.
CD2 his usual kinda black music gear. Very uplifting though 'think Jackie Brown' soul, jazz, b-boy.
CD3 unmixed exclusive gems, a good variety of house grooves for all you budding jocks out there. Very different and very fresh.

if you grew up in the nineties like me you should definatly remember the cat in the hat jay kay with his funky band jamiroquai.
this was the first jamiroquai album i got and is probably there most recognised for there singles virtual insanity, cosmic girl and alright which i seem to remember getting loads of airplay in the nineties, this album is also the best selling funk album ever and if you dont believe me look it up on wikipedia!
personally i found emergancy on planet earth and the return of the space cowboy alot more funky and acid-jazz related than this album which came after but its still a fantastic album and one of my favourate albums from the band.

This is not a terrible album, but, unless you are a die-hard Jamiroquai fan, I'd buy another of their albums instead. (Or even a different band's album for that matter!)Most of this sounds like lesser quality re-hashed numbers and far too much of it reminds me of 80's disco - and that should be a sound none of us have inflicted on us again! All in all a rather mediocre album which, sadly, doesn't live up to its name.

This is by far the best album Jamiroquai have written. It came at a time when Jamiroquai had it's finest line-up of band members inc Jay, Toby, Wallis & Stuart. This album builds on Emergency On Planet Earth's Acid Jazz vibes and takes it to another level. Many of the tracks are very mellow, but in Scam and Just Another Story we hear some real serious, almost angry, funk. This album also includes perhaps the most classic Jamiroquai track: Space Cowboy, available here in it's full album version glory -far more musically interesting than the somewhat more radio friendly version that was released as a single. This album also includes one of the finest performances of the genre on bass guitar by Stuart Zender. If you are a music lover and like good grooves, funk, ... Read More:

A defining album, an album that becomes a part of you and that will stay with you. This album inspired me to learn the bass guitar and I still have a lot of fun playing along.

This is a really excellent introduction to the Acid Jazz sound and the pioneering label of the same name (founded in the late 1980s and ultra cool in the early-2-mid 1990s) - the two are the same thing: there was only ever one true home!
The selection of tracks is spot-on: it contains a good overview of the key artists in the genre.
The inlay sleeve doubles up as a fold-out 'career map' of the Acid Jazz label. This is a really nice touch for a mid-price release.
If you're a newcomer to 'Acid Jazz', you'd do far worse than to start here! At well under a tenner this is a great investment and sound addition to the collection of any open-minded music fan.
