My partner hates this album with a passion...He said it was like having sandpaper rubbed all over his face. I love it. Exquisite, strong, heartbreaking. J'adore Takk.

I must admit that I don't know if I completely understand this music (yet?). It's kind of like new age Pink Floyd with an Icelandic twist. The reason I say that is because it has such a broad expanse of sound which I do like. I must admit the middle of the album is really worth buying it for - there is such a lot going on it's awesome. However on the down side I feel that some of the tracks are a bit long and seem to have these very strange endings where a load of odd unrelated sounds seem to be tagged on as an after thought. Apart from that it has really grown on me and I think if you like something a bit out of the norm then this may well be for you.

It's hard to really put the experience of listening to this album into words. It is just a relentlessly gorgeous soundscape, even by Sigur Ros' own high standards.
Of all their albums, this is the most seamless. As many listeners have commented, the songs seem to blend into each other, as if they are different movements of one work, and the album as a whole simply encapsulates me.
That is not to say that the mood is a constant throughout. Rather, the melancholy of Track 1 gives way to the gentle and beautiful optimism of Track 3, whilst the mood of Track 4 drifts between the two, in a wonderfully passive, relaxed way. The second half of the album, in contrast, is considerably darker, whilst maintaining the beauty of the first ... Read More:

Like all the previous reviews, this album is a classic & one that never gets tired, other albums come & go but this one is here to stay, been a massive fan of zero 7 from the beginning since i first heard the sublime "destiny" on a late night chillout radio show, every track on the album is outstanding, wether it's the beautiful instrumental tracks or the ones with vocals,it's simply a pleasure to listen to time & time again,a true classic! Also check out the brilliant "when it falls" album, another excellent release by the outstanding zero 7...

This is the second in Johann's planned trilogy based on technology and picks up where the truly stunning IBM 1401, A User's Manual (released in 2006) left off. A modern classical masterpiece - I find it inconceivable that anyone would give this less than five stars! Sweeping strings, delightful electronic bursts, soaring harmonies that can't but help yank one's emotions all over the place. Anyone lucky enough to see Joahnn's live gig at the Union Chapel in the summer 2008 will know what a building-shaking, emotion-shattering talent this guy is.

Having bought this album after hearing it playing in the hairdressers (!), I was not dissappointed. There are so many songs I recognised that I didn't even realise were Groove Armada's and there's a real mix of chill out songs along with dance/pop, so whatever mood you're in this album will give you a lift! I don't think this album will ever sound out-dated, it's great!

This still is one of my all time favourites of his work, though as we know, each and every album is too distinct to compare. It's a continuation of his style from his previous album 'Far Away Trains Passing By" but with an added twist - the fine introduction of Judith Beck, the enchanting and breathtaking vocal addition.
In life, there are certain albums we have carried with us, where ever we go, whether through new life experiences or whilst reconciling old ones, this music co-creates with one's own memories. Isn't that what music does? This album is one of those classics.
My favourite song "On My Own" is an addictive tune that is completely different from the rest of the album, but throws me back to the days of Joy Division...and then one is carried ... Read More:

Have just found this CD in my loft after being lost during the last house move. So happy to see it i nearly cried. Like being reunited with a long lost friend. Agree with the reviewers here (not Amazon)- this album can be many things to many people so long as you are not offended by the mix of hymns and sensual (at times sexual) beat / sounds. The work can function as background music while you work or socialise; or alternatively be the backdrop to chilling or meditating. It even gives the HiFi a work out at the same time!
This is one of the most awful albums I ever heard.
It all seems a joke. Probably is a masterpiece for toilette ambience or a sound experience in North Polo.
I like most of Robert Fripp guitar playing and Brian Eno works but this is too much for me... I just don't see nothing more then boring continuing horrible sustaining sounds.
