A fantastic album with no week songs. The Levellers have at last brought their raw energy and passion together with their ability to tug at the heart and nail a good melody. Perfect.

One Way of Life: the Best of the Levellers

This is the only levellers album I own, and personally I think it is fantastic. So if this is in reality a collection of the more mediocre songs as some reviewers have said, the other albums must be absolutely extraordinary :D

Levelling the Land

There has been a few albums that I've loved, what sets 'Levelling the Land' apart from those albums is that there is no song on this album that I don't like, I love them all. I still haven't got tired of listening to it yet and it still makes me smile and appreciate being alive. Yes this world isn't perfect but who cares when the Lev's are doing their thing and doing it bloody brilliantly! I heard 'Beautiful Day' on the radio, played a couple of tracks on youtube then bought this album, swiftly followed by about 4 more! Listen to them, you'll wonder how you managed without them, i am a complete 'Lev's Lady' now!

Zeitgeist: Remastered & Expanded

This is pretty much the high water mark album for the Levellers, from their high water mark year: a 12-month stretch that saw them drawing Glastonbury's biggest ever stagefront crowd (a record not yet broken), founding their indie-green-anarchist HQ-cum-recording-studio/commune in Bristol then hitting the number 1 spot with this, their most successful album.

Yup, it really did seem as if earnest and politically engaged eco-politics were about to sweep the nation and the likes of Take That would have to trudge through the musical fallout, heads bowed like bloody penitents.

And yet my musically cognizant friends sneer at my affection for the Levellers. "New Model Army lite" is much bandied about and they stick a finger in one ear and ... Read More:

Unanimously derided by the small-minded music media and universally adored by their fans and live audiences everywhere, the Levs have now been going strong for over 20 years (let's see if the Arctic Monkeys get that far). They may have never been "trendy", but once you've seen them live you're hooked. Their annual assault on Britain's festival scene is a highlight of any summer, regardless of the weather. They are, without peer, the best festival band....EVER!! I bought this DVD after seeing (for the umpteenth time) at the 2007 Trowbridge Village Pump, where they went down a storm with the most mixed audience I've ever seen. Onto the DVD....what can I say? Levellers: Remastered & Expanded

The follow up to their first hit album 'Levelling the Land', this is definitive Levellers from 1993. While it is not quite as consistent as their first two albums, there are some classic songs here such as 'Julie', '100 Years of Solitude' and 'This Garden'. Sometimes the mixing seems to have been rushed however the quality of the songwriting shines through.

the levs dared to tread new ground with this album and widen their sound. this drew cries of dismay and shouts of "sell out" from fans who should have known better. however,this record boasts some of their finest work starting with the stomping "dog train", the perfect subversive pop single "beautiful day", the wistful "far away"(which opened the 1997 live shows),simons "elation" all eerie violin & sound effects backing an almost traditional folk song which is quite beautiful and for me the highlight of the album. "captains courageous" kicks the proceedings up a gear with mark singing yet another pop levs classic.the original album closer "too real" is perhaps the most radical departure from the norm with the levs attemping their most ambitious production yet.mark ... Truth and Lies

So, another Levellers album. Admittedly the last few have been a bit patchy and so I wasn't expecting much from this one either. There are some great songs, reminiscent of some of their earlier stuff with a few modern twists and it all sounds great live too. But (and it is a big but!) the production is awful! I have been a fan for more years than I can remember. Once upon a time, the only way to get some of their earlier material was on a rather dodgy casette, direct from the fan club. This album has a similar sound and feel but I'm not sure that's what they intended!! So, if you are a fan - buy it - its better than Hello Pig!
