I think this album is a transitional one for Sigur Ros. They've become a band that had a specific sound and they were no doubt aware that they needed to develop their style to avoid stagnation.

With their latest release there are clear signs that the band wanted to make a different kind of a record. The songs are shorter, more acoustic sounding and generally more upbeat. They've tried to rely less on tried and tested ways of working and moved towards spontaneity and improvisation.

At least half of the album sounds a little different for Sigur Ros especially with the single "Gobbledegook" with its tribal drumming, hand claps and chanting. A couple of the tracks almost border on indie pop which would have been very ... Read More:

My partner hates this album with a passion...He said it was like having sandpaper rubbed all over his face. I love it. Exquisite, strong, heartbreaking. J'adore Takk.

I must admit that I don't know if I completely understand this music (yet?). It's kind of like new age Pink Floyd with an Icelandic twist. The reason I say that is because it has such a broad expanse of sound which I do like. I must admit the middle of the album is really worth buying it for - there is such a lot going on it's awesome. However on the down side I feel that some of the tracks are a bit long and seem to have these very strange endings where a load of odd unrelated sounds seem to be tagged on as an after thought. Apart from that it has really grown on me and I think if you like something a bit out of the norm then this may well be for you.

It's hard to really put the experience of listening to this album into words. It is just a relentlessly gorgeous soundscape, even by Sigur Ros' own high standards.

Of all their albums, this is the most seamless. As many listeners have commented, the songs seem to blend into each other, as if they are different movements of one work, and the album as a whole simply encapsulates me.

That is not to say that the mood is a constant throughout. Rather, the melancholy of Track 1 gives way to the gentle and beautiful optimism of Track 3, whilst the mood of Track 4 drifts between the two, in a wonderfully passive, relaxed way. If someone had told me this album were some lost Sid Barrett Pink Floyd tapes from 1970 I would have believed them. One can instantly hear after this album the vast difference the arrival of Kjartan Sveinsson and his musical training contributed to the orchestral and string arrangements of their subsequent work.
I akin Von to Floyd's pre Dark Side material and for a collecter it's still a worthy purchase in following the history of Sigur Ros.

If your a fan of Sigur this is a single that is well worth the £5. 3 songs that arn't featured on Takk as well as the single Saeglopur. Its my favourite song on the masterpice that is Takk. Also bonus dvd as well gives you three singles in video.
