I put this into the cd player hoping to be blown away by some seriously good blues/rock but....well, 6 plays later, I'm still waiting. Maybe it's too American for my taste but if you want good blues/rock music tune into Paul Rodgers, Free, Ian Siegal etc.
Joe Bonamassa can certainly play (apparently he opened for BB King when he was 12!) but I couldn't discern any connection with the noise coming out of the speakers.

I just want to add my voice to the crowd: Bonamassa is more than you expect. I have bought all his records now, and there is no disappointment, I am very very impressed with him: good voice, massive sound, an amazing knowledge of the classics of blues and rock, and a style of his own who can also perfectly emulate the great names when needed. He is fulfilling expectations coming from the hype around him. HE DESERVES IT. I have not been impressed as much with someone since Stevie Ray played Texas Flood in my ears many years ago. MUST HAVE FOR ALL BLUES FANS!! Not only this CD! ALL OF THEM !!!

I don't think every track on here stands up. my problem is that track 3-'Blues Deluxe' is absolutely amazing and sets the bar too high for the rest - this has got to be one of the all time great blues guitar solos ( I'm surprised it's not singled out in other reviews) and has real nuance and subtlety as it builds up, with great contribution from bass and drums, to a soaring climax ( with one of the best pauses you will ever 'hear' ! ). There are few guitarists that can sound as potent as Bonamassa does on this number.
My other two favourites are the other two slow numbers 'I don't Live Anywhere' and Long Distance Blues' . Walking Blues has some nice harmonica.
The band always play well and the production is excellent , but the uptempo numbers ... Read More:

I don`t believe Joe has peaked yet - he is still developing as an artist but boy when he gets it right he is monstrously good. He reminds me of Clapton and Gary Moore the most but echoes of Frampton and Stevie Ray creep in here and there. BB King is an obvious influence.
Anyway he writes sings and plays with conviction and soul - his guitar is not overblown and fits the songs nicely and usually leave you wanting more, again a little like old Slowhand himself. High Water everywhere showcases a fabulous vocal, Asking around for you is a wonderful blues ballad, and I agree with others that Led Zeppelin`s Tea for one is a brave and unusual cover that is really well done.
HE HAS THE CHOPS and knows and loves a wide variety of classic rock and blues - ... Read More:

From the opening salvo of "Never Make Your Move Too Soon", Joe Bonamassa leaves you in no doubt what to expect from this album: race-tuned blues of the sort people used to play when "guitar hero" was a compliment rather than a put-down. Once again he leans heavily on the souped-up Marshall-type sounds of the seventies, but only in a good way. There are some classics in the making here: his re-working of "Reconsider Baby" into a minor key is a triumph, opening it up and creating a Stairway to Heaven vibe; "Revenge of the 10-Gallon Hat" (a tribute to the late Danny Gatton) is a jaw-dropping display of country-style picking at an almost impossible speed; the title track, written by Steve Winwood and originally recorded by Blind Faith, begins with the wonderfully ... I just want to say that Joe Bonamassa is deservedly hyped as one of the best guitar players around these days. Being "the best" is a matter of taste but he is in the top club. He plays the blues from the inside, but he can play anything, you hear this is a guy of wide musical tastes and he is just really worth listening to. However this album - his first - is not my favourite by far. If you want to discover him, try the "live from nowhere in particular" (which is also a best of) and the amazing "blues deluxe" first. Anyway, after those two, I guarantee that, like me, you will try and buy everything he has recorded. He is THE MAN. I can't wait to see him live when he comes to Europe this December.
I've read lots'a reviews 'bout Joe saying he sounds like so'n so'n so'n so'n so.So what. The guy has obviously learned his craft extremly well I may add.Long may he continue.

This year Bonamassa put out a double live "from nowhere in particular" which is just perfect. This one here is an early live performance of Joe, and it feels less polished, rawer, more energetic. It is well worth having, even though I think it is a but pricey. It is the latest Bonamassa cd I just bought, thinking it was just for the collection, but no, for me it is definitely added value, not redundant. The version of Free's "walk in my shadow" is even better here than on the 2008 live.
Top recommendation for guitar lovers!!
