I purchased the RadioShack recorder to record articles and messages for my Mother who has very little sight and lives almost 100 miles away. I found the controls easy to use and the manual easy to follow. I am very disappointed with the dreadful background noise. I have used 60 and 90 minute, normal bias cassette tapes as recommended in a quiet room to no avail. I have so far been unable to purcase an external microphone which is mono as they are now all sterio. Quite frankly I feel the best place for it is the dustbin and for me to look for a new one.

purchased this radio in white, there was a audible hum when connected to power supply, radio was hot while operating and after a few days went dead. received a replacement and exactly the same problem happened again. sent back to supplier at my expense for a refund.emailed alba regarding this product but they said there is no specific problem with this model. i am not happy at all and would certainly not leave it on all day.would not buy another even for a fiver
