I just need to say that i agree with everyone else. great looking machine and nearly does what its meant to do..... except the CD wont work after only using it 30 times and the dam thing keeps rebooting its self. Try elsewhere folk, try elsewhere. sorry pure, at first glance - so close but in reality - way off the mark

We bought this radio as a gift for a family member for Christmas, 2006. The quality is good and it would be great for a portable radio except that the batteries run down quite fast, and as they're C batteries, this becomes very expensive. Supposedly, there is a rechargeable 'chargepak' which charges up when you plug the radio into the mains. We've been trying to get hold of one of these since well before Christmas (when we bought the radio) but it seems to be impossible to get hold of them - they are constantly 'out of stock' on pure's own website.
I was looking for a CD/radio to go in my (small) study. Having looked at the reviews, I plumped for the Pure Chronos - and I haven't been disappointed. It's a nice looking and compact machine. As a DAB virgin, I hadn't been looking forward to getting that all set up. Fortunately set up was a breeze and the DAB reception is just fine. The overall sound is good but not fantastic - I guess that some compromises have been made to keep the size down - but it's perfectly OK for use in a small room. In common with other reviewers, I don't like the remote control - a good remote should work first time every time but this one doesn't. Sometimes you press a button and it works and the next time it doesn't. I've lost patience with it and now only use ... Read More:

As you can currently buy fairly decent DAB Radios for near the £30 region, it may be hard to justify spending this kind of money on a little speaker. I feel that it is well worth the money. Admittedly, Pure sell the Evoke/Sonus/Tempus 1XTs as kitchen/bedroom radios where sound quality does not matter as much, but it is, as most reviewers say, a warm, rich room-filling sound (and better, to my ears, than the more expensive 'luxury' Evoke 3 - not that the Evoke 3 sounds bad). My only complaint with it is that the bass is not as deep as the main unit's. That said, together, they produce a very well balanced tone, and while you may not be able to adjust the tone of the Evoke, I can't imagine that anyone would be disappointed with the sound in any setting.
