I was quite happy with my old Panasonic DVD player until it decided to give up the fight. So I thought the Hyundai HPD719 DVD Player would be the answer to my problems. I was wrong, the screen quality was appalling and to top it of I was supplied with the wrong TV connections.
The quality is cheep and nasty, don't by it if you're used to something better.

The fixing brackets, mounted on my Golf headrest, could only be screwed using the central holes - subsequently the brackets were loose and ultimately one cracked
The first one I bought - the 2nd screen never worked and delayed my holiday as I had to return to the store to exchange it
The exchanged one worked for a few hours then once again failed as the 2nd screen went blank and so was useless
It was exchanged once more, worked for one journey, the headrest mounting rail cracked and when used again, a few weeks later for a long journey, the 2nd screen went blank yet again.
It was an extremely dissapointing puchase and the mountings for the screens were very wobbly.

I've now had 3 of these all with exactly the same problem - they randomly freeze while watching and you have to remove the disc and put it back in to get it going again. This has been a real downer on 2 holidays now where we have had long journeys! Philips deny there is a problem with the player, but 3 out 3, call me cynical but I think there is a problem here. I recomend you try a different player.

I have been quoted £57 + P&P (by a mail order company suggested by Philips called DutchWest) for a new rechargeable battery pack as my existing one is on its way out

I was pleased with this DVD player,a good design, nice size and easy to use! I was also impressed with the FM transmitter and its multi region capability which was the main reason I purchased it.And at this price you cant go wrong.Ive had no problems as of yet.So overall definately a good buy.

I looked at all the reviews for this product, and decided to get it. I don't regret my decision as it was always going to be hooked up to my TV to watch international DVDs, that's it, but when I was trying it out I found that the DVD flap needs holding down otherwise it comes open. It doesn't bother me that much, I just put a book or a bit of tape on it as I'm not going to use it as a portable. But if you are, you might want to think about that.
Also when it starts up it makes a lot of noise, which is unexpected - I thought it was malfunctioning! But when it warms up and starts to play the DVD the system is very quiet. It looks nice, it has a good sized screen and other than the above, I can't find anything wrong with it. A good little player.

This product looks great - Philips are still obsessed with Apple's design principles. The sound quality and screen quality are significantly better than my previous 7" toshiba portable. It plays like a proper DVD/TV combo - you'll find that the 10" screen is big enough to use as a kitchen or sideboard DVD player.
The build quality is OK - the lid snaps shut a little too sharply and you have to dig your fingernails under the lid to prize it open. The swivel screen is a nice idea, but I'm concerned that with use it'll be the first part of the product to fail. Since it only swivels 180 degrees, you might make the mistake of forcing it the wrong way or too far. At £180, it still represents great value, as long as you accept the minor imperfections. It would ... Read More:

This is my first portable player, although I have seen and used others belonging to friends, I can truly say how pleased i am with this particular player. It does everytyhing it says on the box. Picture quality is great in all formats including digital TV.I bought the Shinco freeview add-on(although not cheap)and was supprised at how easy it was to set up. using the given arial it picked up 30 stations, however this only worked in some rooms within the house. Fixing an ordinary portable TV arial solved this problem.
The player is well built with many accessories, remote control,2 pairs of ear phones etc: well designed carry case which lets you included all the extras. The case for viewing in the car is flimsey but adequate(you can always sit with it on your knee).Sound ... Read More:
Does just about everything you could expect. Digital TV reception okay with my own indoor aerial (Film 4 and BBC 3 a bit dodgy). There is supposed to be a wake up timer (also used for the recording function) but there doesn't seem to be a standby function so you can only power off using the mains switch! Leave it on and it will initiate recording at the set time. Unit can't be used as a Freeview box because the A/V output only works for DVD. Plugging in the mains adapter doesn't disable the battery so it will start charging as soon as the the power switch is turned off - not good for battery life.

Philips PET 704 - Good little unit, easy to use. I have made mine region '0' using the unlock instructions below
1) Open the tray (no power on) and make sure there is no disc in the player
2) Whilst the tray is still open, hold down the 'Menu' key on the player (not the remote)
3) Press the 'Power' button and continue to hold down the 'Menu' key
4) The Region Code menu will appear and you can set anything from 0-6 using the remote
5) Once the region is showing what you want it to, power off and it's done!
Hope that this is of use to many others.
