New fairytales are surely dangerous territory for big film studio's to venture into. Stardust has overcome that hurdle by recruiting an 'A' list cast.
Having taken that leap of faith, a production of great merit is the result. The triumph of which must be the understated, tongue in cheek delivery by the principles, even the Americans. Robert De Niro way out of his comfort zone does a particulaly good job.
Its like a 'Princess Bride', with a big budget. And in that league as well. Enjoy.

The first 2 films are rightly classed as cinema at it's finest. You really can't find finer films then these 2 with many actors/actresses providing their finest screen performances. The location filming which took place in New York and Italy is a done to perfection.

The 3rd part. Yes the Fredo Corleone of the 3 films can never live up to his 2 brothers but you can't help but like him. The film is a good film in it's own way and is enjoyable however they maybe should have left the books to tell the rest of the tale.

Overall with the films and extras this is 5 stars all the way.

I watched this movie in 3 instalments because it's nearly 3 hours long.
It was okay but the storyline and style of acting and actors were much like I've seen in countless gangster type films like this one.It was a little predictable and I think the fact that Martin Scorsese got the man who was writing the story as a book to delay finishing the book and help him write a screenplay lowered the quality.Screenplays usually work best when a finished and established book is adapted for the screen.

Some say Michael Mann is an acquired taste. I say an appreciation of Mann's films, notably Heat, The Insider, Collateral, Ali, Thief and Manhunter, means you have taste. At sixty-three, he's a world-class filmmaker who's still breaking rules and rubbing nerves raw. The bottom line on this 1995 classic is that is a very smart, tightly paced, action-packed crime thriller with beautiful cinematography and great performances underscored by a compulsive tension that builds from frame one until the end of the movie.


This is a film for blokes; the bottom line for females viewers is that because the film is so unconventional and densely plotted, it may leave many of our make-up lovin' brethren in the dust. Too bad. Some reviewers on Amazon are all lined up to ... Read More:

This is a low budget classic from Scorsese made in 1973. There is certainly an impressive sense of time and place in this film, and it came as a shock to me to learn that most of it was filmed in Los Angeles. I suppose it is not too much to say that this movie presaged the rock video, in that there is a seemingly constant stream of doo-wap and Italian music on the soundtrack that is inextricably woven with the on-screen action. Like a low-budget, urban Sergio Leone, Scorsese choreographs the music and the action into something like an opera. There is an intense energy that flows through its frames and occasionally overflows in outbursts of violence that erupt and subside with their own unique rhythm. 1976 was a funny electoral year. One year after the full defeat in Vietnam and the evacuation of Saigon on the run. Two years after the resignation of Nixon, to avoid an impeachment that would have led to the very first conviction of the President. 1976 was the year when all had to changed, and nothing really changed because the establishment just looked for a way to save face and restore the everyday standard imperialistic power, and of course that will fail with Jimmy Carter, but Scorsese could not know it though everyone knew that success would be a miracle. This is an awful adaptation. It bastardizes the essence of Shelley's novel. While the novel nurtures a moral dilemma at its heart, this destroys it. (This cannot be demonstrated better than when the monster rips out Elizabeth's heart, serving as an apt metaphor for the film ripping out the heart of the text). The sympathy for the monster which Shelley really draws on is completely undercut in the film by the monster's portrayal as a cold blooded murderer wanting an unjustified amount of revenge...it ignores the reasons behind his sadness, ignoring the carefully crafted manipulation which Shelley plays with the reader's own preconceived ideas.
Among the monstrosities are the changing of the monster's final speech when Victor had died, which should have been a real climax and silent moral questioning ... Read More:

Brian De Palma's depiction of Probition-era Chicago is a masterpiece of modern film-making, with Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner) and Al Capone (Robert De Niro) fighting it out for control of the city. Malone (played by Sean Connery) is a cop who teaches Ness how to get the seemingly "untouchable" mob boss, and the film (with dramatic and often violent scenes) chronicles the demise of the legendary gangster. Sean Connery received an Oscar (Best Supporting Actor) for his efforts, which is testament to the quality of this picture.
