Since infants are more aware of contrast than color in the beginning, I 'read' this book with my daughter from the time she was four months old through about her first year. Cover to cover, I read the words (title and book description, which almost hypnotically became part of the experience!) and described the pictures, sometimes tracing them with a finger. Our interaction with the small book was cuddly and verbal, as the images served as guides. She had her favorites, and the book is well-worn, chewed in places. It was a daily gentle activity, holding her interest, obviously delighting and stimulating, and paved the way for more and more books. I remember this book when i was at junior school over 20 years ago. The library copy was so tattered and worn as so many children used to borrow and play with it, but i still used to love it. So you can imagine my JOY as i just spotted it for sale whilst i was looking for books for my sons first Xmas. Now i know he is far to young at the moment (10 months at xmas), but as soon as i saw it i knew, this is a book he will love to read and play with once he is old enough - and until then i think i might relive a bit of my childhood lol!!

the book gets off to a good start with the title "action" but then moves on to more spurious ones such as "rattle and shake" (some rattles - need to have them to hand), "push the blocks" (great if you've set up the blocks ready) and "hold on tight" (with a picture of a baby holding an adult's hand - boring!). Ok these are actions that babies can do, but only when they want to, they'd be too little to do any following the song.

My 18mth old & I gave up after 2 actions. I'd been hoping for a run through of the proper version with actions such as "jump up and down", "turn around" or "stamp yor feet" but none of these were included.

Yes the pictures are lovely and being a board book means it will survive abuse, but it's unlikely ... Read More:

I purchased this book thinking it was just another book when my son was 6 months old and it wouldn't get looked at like numerous others. My son loves it and passes it to me every single day. I know the pages inside out as does he. He touches the pages in the right place and his face lights up when he touches the right touchy parts on the page. Teaches colours and touch and there is a little mouse on every page to find. I guess it would also help with reading but my son is only 14 months and a bit young for that yet. I have 3 other titles in the range and would recommend them to any parent that is prepared to read to their child. You have to buy more because there is only so much of the same book you can take!!!!

A fun and interactive way to read, with nice sound buttons. Lots of super Usborne illustrations with lots to see, something different each time.
My 2 year old daughter loves finding the right sound button to match the picture on the page. She really likes 'reading' the story together with me.
Perfect to share with little ones.

I have had a couple of these books from the series including thats not my dinosaur and thats not my monkey and my 4 month old has really enjoyed them. We were both disappointed with this book that the colour contrast between the 'touchy feely' bits was not great and some of the pages had only a very small textured piece to feel which is difficult for younger babies who are not very dexterous. I would definately recommend the series but would advise on one of the other books with brighter colours and more to feel and see.

Fantastic book. My four year old has had me read this book so many times she knows it word perfect. The rhyming is great. So easy to read and enjoy as an adult too. A real classic like their other books, funny and well illustrated.

We have a selection of books by this author, but if I had a £1 for time I've had to read this to my little girl then I would be very well off! It's quirky and fun to read, has excellent illustration and language use as well as a good moral to the story. The kids adore it. We adore it. Be warned: if you get this book, expect to be reading it night after night for a very long time!

This is a wonderfully informative lift the flap book for boys aged 3-8years. The book gives detailed drawn pictures of castles, their development, inside of and castles today with lots of interesting little cameos to keep spotting. There are characters for the children to spot including Lord Simon, Tiggs the cat and Lady Eleanor plus funny incidents to muse over, creating lots of talking points for you and your child. My son, and a number of his friends have this book and its brought out time and time again to be explored and enjoyed. Highly recommended, especially for those budding knights!
