Given this as a Christmas present, I was not immediately inspired, however I did dip into it and found myself rather hooked!
As a reference book it is wonderful- all those little things that you weren't sure about... all those things you were wondering...
How does that work?
Who was he?
How did he do that?
Which episode did that happen?
What does a Compact Laser Deluxe do? Who had one, and, you know... Where?!
Get all your questions answered and more in this neat, beautifully illustrated guide to the world that is uniquely Doctor Who!
The entire book it dedicated to every useful, and er, not so useful fact that is Doctor who. Who knows what happened in 1336 with the doctor, Rose and Captain ... Read More:

This is an excellent book, written from a child's perspective so I can imagine that the reading of it as a child is completely different from that as an adult and a history student. Despite other reviewers comments you don't see the ending coming or imagine how you will feel about it. This book will stay with you. Read and enjoy. The tag-line reads "a tale of innocence in a time of ignorance" and so it is and so it still is and always will be. The lesson of history is that we never learn the lesson of history, lets hope books like this can help us.

"Like any jungle, it is a world of predators and prey. Some of the most dangerous creatures in the world live here. Very few of them are in cages..."
Having appeared in bestselling books and on TV, detective/wizard Harry Dresden now has his own comic book series, the four-part "Welcome To the Jungle". And it loses nothing in translation -- author Jim Butcher wonderfully preserves the sharp, witty, literate fantasy-noir flavour of his books, which is brought to colorful life with Ardian Syaf's solid artwork. This is one to keep an eye on.
A mangled corpse is found outside the monkey house, but the facts don't add to the "gorilla attack" the city wants. So Murphy calls in Harry Dresden (who was killing a Rawhead and Bloody Bones), ... Read More:

It is great to see that this timelss classic is still very popular. Like most of the sailing community Swallows and Amazons created in me a passion for sailing that has stayed with me through adult life. The adventures of John, Susan, Titty and Roger are what many children dream of. The whole series really introduced me to reading as i just wanted to hear more of their adventures. So I would recommend any adult buying these books for their childern.

"Excitement, tension, the thrill of the chase, these were a few of his favourite things."
- The Doctor Trap, p. 187
Sebastiene is physically flawless, incredibly powerful and more than a little bit maniacal. As the ruler of Planet 1, Sebastiene has everything he could ever want, but that will never be enough. He's taken to hunting down alien species, the more dangerous the better. For his ultimate prize, however, Sebastiene must enlist the help of the Endangered Dangerous Species Society, a group of the most ruthless hunters in the galaxy. Sebastiene wants to add the most dangerous being in the universe to his collection: the Doctor, the last of the Time Lords.
Sebastiene uses a genetic copy of the Doctor, a man named Baris, to ... Read More:

... I'm loving the illustrated version. Even though I keep being told that it's a children's book, yet I have noticed that these people who keep telling me that it's for children not adults are trying to borrow it!
As a Terry Pratchett/Discworld fan I found that I fell for the Nac Mac Feegle and young Tiffany Aching. When I saw there was going to be an illustrated version I ordered it immediately, had the order cancelled by Amazon due to unexpected delay, then reordered it again. I waited so long for it that I was worried when it was finally sent. However I was not let down, it's been beautifully done.
I like one of the other reviewers have now ordered my second copy due to the grubby hands of those who think it is for children only.

This book is an excellent introduction to what can be a dense and complex play. It starts with a simple plot outline. It then progresses to more in depth analysis of the play scene by scene. After which it lays out some key themes, symbols and ideas in the play in the forms of mini essays. It has a fairly good glossary, a potted history of Shakespeare himself and how his plays would have appeared. It also has a good time line and chronology, a glossary of common theatrical and critical terms and a good recommended reading list. It is very useful indeed.

I am a huge Pratchett fan. This book stands out as one of his darkest and funniest yet. For those nay sayers who give this 2 stars, it is more down to the fact that they want Discworld to stay the Colour of Magic forever and this is where TP has succeeded for years; he has allowed the Discworld to develop away from the one liner, and into characters, situations, jokes and prose that develop like a good wine throughout the book.
If Jingo was Dulce et Decorum est, then Monstrous Regiment is Strange Meeting.

This revision guide summarises clearly and concisely all the science you need up to and including Year 9, with sections on Life Processes, Materials and Physical Processes. And it's great for learning because it explains everything in an entertaining and accessible format (check out the cold polar bear and the elephant in stilettos!). Our children have worked steadily through it preparing for exams, and the pages are getting dog-eared.
Conclusion: a comprehensive and well-written guide to KS3 Science. Wish we'd had books like this when I was at school.
