This little gem of a book should be in every backpackers back pocket. Concise, focused and descriptive you'll have no trouble identifying the plants and shellfish. There has been some comments about lack of information on animals to eat, this is probably because rabbits, pheasants and such are classed as game and will belong to the landowner. Whilst it's ok to pick a few plants, mushrooms and shellfish it will probably be frowned on if you start blasting away at the countryside or setting traps!

This is an excellent book to make you realise how your feelings are determined by your thoughts, and how you can positively influence your mood by changing the way you think. Some self-help books don't deliver because they're too vague but this book is also very practical, with many useful exercises. It's no wonder that many people are so enthusiastic about CBT and talking about it as an alternative to medication. I do not suffer from depression and was always a fairly happy person but this book has taught me how to be happier still. I would also recommended Eckhart Tolle's the Power of Now for a slightly different perspective and Steve Taylor's Making Time Making Time: Why Time Seems to Pass at Different Speeds and How to Control It for an invesigation ... One of my resolutions for 2008 is to broaden my literary horizens. After studying English Lit to A-Level, my interest has fallen to the wayside. So on my quest to better myself through literature, I read "The Old Man and the Sea", which I just couldn't relate to. So imagine my relief when I started reading "The Great Gatsby". I'm so glad I perservered with classic books!
TGG is a great read. It's fast-paced from the outset, and gripping towards the end - I couldn't put it down. I even tried to convince family and friends to read it afterwards; but to no avail - so if I manage to get even ONE person to read it from writing this review, then good! Definitely recommended.

I bought this book, hoping to help me with my daughters sleeping, and routine. Instead it made me feel like the worst mother ever. I was trying to do things with her, that made no sense, kept trying to make her sleep all the time, when she shouldn't have been. Such a terrible book, don't buy it, it will confuse you, and make you feel rubbish!!!!!

I love this book! I remember it from when I was a kid, (more than 30 years ago!) I have been searching for it for ages for my 3 year old son who loves books, and he loves it too. Not sure if it has changed over the years, but it's very much the same as I remember it to be.

I've loved all of the other Ian McEwan books I've read, but although I acknoweldge that this is very well written I just didn't enjoy it at all. I found it very hard going and frankly, didn't have much sympathy for either of the characters. Someone called it a "Tragic love story" but love doesn't really come into it in my opinion!

I got this book for my 21st and what a book. I read this book within a few day, such a great plot and I love the idea that I am going to meet Ballista (the main charater) not only in a second novel but also a third.
When you read this book you feel that you are there and fighting the Pursians. I would recommend this to anyone but beware there is alot of swearing in it but this shouldn't put you off.
Dr Harry Sidebottom is a lecturer at oxford university and he knows about this era, also this era of the Roman empire isn't explored as much as when Rome was the world power.

Given my title, that would suggest that I havn't made anything from this book, and if you assumed that, you would be right. So, you may wonder what right I have to review a cookery book when I have not tried any of the recipes, surely though a cookery book has suceeded to an extent if it inspires you to attempt only one of the recipes presented to you on it's pages.
And that is the main problem with this book in my opinion, it just hasn't made me go into my kitchen and want to recreate any of the recipes I have seen in it, which is a real shame as I enjoy cooking a lot and like trying new kinds of cuisine.
So, does that make it a bad book? For me it is, but maybe for other people it's great. So I'd say see if you know someone who has a copy and ... Read More:

On July 4, 1939, Hall of Fame first baseman Lou Gehrig, fatally ill with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), the disease that would be named after him, told a capacity crowd at Yankees Stadium that he was "the luckiest man on the face of the earth." Sixty-eight years later, Carnegie Mellon computer science professor Randy Pausch, who has terminal pancreatic cancer, delivered his "last lecture." Like Gehrig, Pausch used the opportunity to express his gratitude rather than focusing on his terrible misfortune. In an hour-long taped presentation that earned him worldwide acclaim as it spread throughout the Internet, Pausch summarized his philosophy, and spoke of the importance of lofty ambition, hard work and perseverance. Pausch's main objective was to leave a meaningful legacy ... Read More:
