Many books profess to being Encylopedia or Bible of this and that but few live up to the impressive title. I'm pleased to say this book does that by the bucket load. The book goes through the basic equipment, techniques, blocks and rotary cutting - with simple instructions and clear colour photographs. Slowly graduating to special effects, applique, quilting types (Italian, Sashiko, Trapunto, which I can only dream of aspiring to) and finshing with, appropriately, finishing. At the very end of the book are themes with fabulous examples of quilts designed and made by the 'great and good' in the quilting world, some of which can only be described as breath taking. Definitely a book for the beginner with inspiration for the 'graduate quilter' to ... Read More:

Having previously used the 350D, 20D and 30D I recently purchased a 40D and needed a few more pointers regarding camera settings (picture styles, custom functions etc.).
I saw this book in a local book shop and thought it was exactly what I was looking for. It is written in concise language, is set out clearly and is logical in its approach to the subject.
However, I did not buy it due to one glaring mistake, that so many so-called professionals are making when discussing the 'focal length multiplier' of smaller sensor DSLR cameras. Camera manufacturers inadvertently began this 'myth' to explain the 'focal length multplier' of the smaller sensor cameras. A more correct term would be 'FIELD OF VIEW CROP FACTOR' (FOVCF).

as a collector it seems of books on graffiti, this is another one i have added to my collection. full of the same kinds of images you have seen in other books, it does show some new ones and more creative examples. the only thing i don't like is the binding, which has fallen apart already leaving pages hanging on.

I bought this book a fair few years ago at the beginning of my photography career and it was a great introduction book, perfect for beginners. However if you favor digital photography be aware that this book is completely film based. Great to keep on the shelf for a reminder of a few old d.i.y. tricks to help you achieve your desired image without spending hours in photoshop ;) Though not the most up-to-date book on this subject.

What a great book. Concise with well thought-out chapters. Figgis writes in his own voice without self-promotion. This is really essential reading for anyone embarking on independant film making with a digital camcorder. He covers all aspects including your relationship with actors. This is not a technical how-to textbook, it's about the kind of experiences you would only get from working along side an experienced director.

I bought this at the same time as Digital SLR Handbook by A. Rouse! Why both, I have no idea but it was worth getting both! This is a hard back book of good proportions so not easily concealed in a pocket! It has over 190 pages! The one thing I don't like with this book is that some of the black print is printed over coloured backgrounds and whilst it makes attempts to make the print stand out I had to get into good light to read it! Some of the caption writing is quite small, testiment to my eyes being ok that I can read it!
This book gives a couple of histogram examples, maybe more would be appreciated? It takes you through all the steps of digital SLR ownership, without too much on exposure and other basics that are usually well covered in other ... Read More:
