I read this book in Chinese when I started to learn architecture many yaers ago, and I bought the English version later when I came to the US. I love it, it is one of the best architectural books that you can have.

I like drawing myself, but I needed a little help in some areas of drawing. I came across this book in waterstones and bought it (sorry amazon!), as it looked very informative. How right I was.
It is great for taking each project step by step, storing it in a portofolio (excuse my spelling) and looking back and reflecting on it. I have enjoyed this book, and I doubt I will ever be 'finished' with it.

I followed the advice of the previous reviewers as I needed a present for a friend. I was not disappointed. This is a super book. It is useful because it has all kinds of designs, not just huge displays which not everyone wants to make. There are simple methods to follow so designs can be tried out easily at home. I like the history of flower designs too which is presented interestingly with some historical photos. There are also large glossy pictures for just browsing. This book is an ideal present. I have never been very tempted to try out flower arranging myself but this flower design encyclopaedia is a real inspiration and has given even me some ideas.

I've got Trinny and Susannah's other books and for a time searched for the features belonging to a typical pear shape, only to find from looking in this book that I'm closer to a skittle. Their advice has prompted me to look more carefully at whether clothes and shoes really suit me rather than whether they suit my wallet so thank you once again ladies.

I bought this book based on the high reviews that it had received. It is a beautifuly presented book, with fabulous photography.
Unfortunately I do feel it was a shame that it did not contain step by step photographs. Also it would have been nice to see the eye makeup on a shut eyelid as well as an open one, to give you a more detailed example of how the look is created/blended.
That aside, it is a nice book that will be flicked through many times.

This is a wonderful collection of photos from the 1850s through to the modern day that captures the cultural, social and political history of the capital. Anyone interested in the development of London over the last 150 years will love this book - published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name at the Getty Images Gallery in London in the autumn of 2008.
Some of the famous faces featured in the collection include the Kray brothers, Reggie and Ronnie as amateur boxers posing with their mother Violet, before they went on to become notorious London gangsters. Other striking images include Daleks invading a London street outside Wyndams Theatre in 1965, Blitz searchlights over St Paul's Cathedral on New Year's Eve 1943 and men rescuing ... Read More:

There is little that is paranormal in this book. Tricks of the light (some not very good ones at that) some clearly dual exposure images - accidental or otherwise. Some interesting photos of simulacra. Oh, and some clearly faked images as well.
That said, it's interesting to see how the human brain can see what it wants to see in some of these!

All the other glowing reviews are justified.
It really is a very good book, deceptive in its simplicity, in which one is given direction (and lots more) from a master-teacher who really wants the reader to learn and improve.

I'm 12 years old and I bought this book along with The Girls' Doodle Book and Beautiful Doodles and I have to say I cannot put it down! There are hundreds of doodles to complete and create, some examples are: Make the house scary, Who has eaten the leaves?, Who is he following?, What a view!, fill the flower shop and disguise me. This is a great book for boys and girls of all ages and I'm even sure full grown adults would love it!! This is a must have book and I definitely give it 5 stars. x

I agree with the other reviews so will try not to repeat too much in my own review.
Children (and some adults) are all too dismissive of the previous generations and, although I would not recommend showing this to young children, it could help teenagers studying history to get a real sense of the conditions the men fighting in the First World War were subject to. The author does not shy away from showing the dead in photographs and I think it gives the reader something to think about and possibly discuss.
As a book, it is well thought out and presented beautifully. It's a book I would happily leave on my coffee table for friends to flick through. A couple of friends can not understand why I would want to look at pictures from the War ... Read More:
