I bought I Before E and I Used to Know That earlier in the year as I need to brush up spelling, general knowledge etc as my godchildren keep asking me awkward homework questions!!!! I had an email from Amazon recommending this book so for a fiver I thought why not!
Very interesting read, I have to say I opened it with a great deal of fear as I always thought Grammar was a bit of a bore - but this book was both funny and informative - that has to be a first when it comes to Grammar :)
Broken down into basic chapters such as spellings and confusables, sentence structure, punctuation, speech and my own personal favourite odds and sods I now feel I know what I am talking about - hopefully my godchildren will now think I am genius!

I loved letterland and so did my daughter and I taught her the letters using their reading cards and CD (both of which I highly recommed). However, now that my daughter has started Reception I was looking for something else to stimulate her writing as well as her reading, which is coming along very nicely. After reading such positive comments on this Jolly Phonics product, I bought it and it just so happens that it is the same method they are using at her school to teach them the letter. She loves it as she recognises it all. A good way to complement at home, what she's learning at school. Thought this would make good present for hosts of weekend house party and so it proved - excellent icebreaker and other guests with age range of 10-88 all found something to interest them. Grandmother knew exactly what a chiffonier was, but hadn't a clue about dongles. The 10 year old was up to speed with his techie terminology but there were a host of other things he'd never even heard of - he was intrigued and so were older, cooler fellow guests. Well-written and amusing.

This is the book to have if you wish to know more about critical thinking. The book has exercises and is abundant with knowledge to assist you with your exams, assignments and general thinking. A must have for all student, just wish i'd found it eariler.

"The Writers' and Artist's Yearbook" (W&AY), published by A&C Black, has a long-standing reputation as a 'must-have' for any writer looking to get into publication. While a number of similar books now exist - including "The Writer's Handbook" (TWH), published by Macmillan, and "Writer's Market" (WM), published by David & Charles Ltd - W&AY remains the original font of knowledge, and for me, the premier choice.

All of these books contain roughly the same extensive listings of publishers, agents, print media, producers etc, and in truth there is little to choose between them. I picked up a copy of this book to explore a growing interest in American oratory and, in particular, the rise of Barack Obama in the American policital stage and his potential place in history.
My knowledge of the history of the USA, along with many other British students attending school in the 1980's, starts and ends with the American Civil War and the plight of Native Americans. However, I am deeply moved by the speeches of Dr King - this book includes one of his most famous speeches which, rightfully I feel, is familiar to us all and, in particular, what it meant for the thousands of Americans stuggling for the same basic rights as others.

I PURCHASED THIS BOOK A GOOD FEW YEARS AGO. I USE IT ALL THE TIME IN BETWEEN MY CLASSES AT NIGHT SCHOOL AND ALWAYS REFER BACK TO IT WHEN WE MOVE TO DIFFERENT USES OF VERBS IN CLASS.
I DO THE EXERCISES IN A A4 SCRAP PAD THAT WAY THE BOOK CAN BE USED OVER AND OVER AGAIN, THEN I CHECK THE ANSWERS FROM THE BACK OF THE BOOK.
I HAVE EVEN BOUGHT THIS BOOK FOR A GOOD FRIEND AND HE AND HIS CO WORKER THINK IT IS EXCELLENT.
PRONOUNS AND PREPOSITIONS .....COMPLETE SPANISH GRAMMAR ....AND SPANISH VOCABULARY ....ARE ALL VERY USEFUL BOOKS IN THE LEARNING RANGE ALSO.

I'm not a French speaker or learner myself, but bought this as a gift for a friend who is tackling the language. I'm sure they'll enjoy it as it's quite fun compared to the dry language texts I had to wade through at school. It's interesting to see that some French idioms are quite similar to ours but have an unusual slant. For example, where we have 'Pushing up the daisies', they have 'Eating the daisies from the roots up'; we write 'Rubber cheques', and they write 'wooden' ones (like taking a 'wooden nickel'?). Others are quite surreal 'Falling backwards into apples' sound quite painful, but to the French this is a soft landing.
