If, like me, you enjoy watching the Two Fat Ladies on TV then this book is a must have. Combining the recipes from the third series with many more great British dishes this book has helped me cook dozens of successful meals. It has also solved my Christmas and Birthday present crises - I've so far bought eight friends and family the book and they've all really loved it. (And best of all I get to enjoy the food from the book every time I go there to eat!) Buy it.

With little regard for "trendy" foods and fads, Jennifer and Clarissa share excellent, easy to prepare dishes with easy to follow instructions. I live in the colonies (USA)but have a long fascination with British cuisine. The television series introduced me to the Two Fat Ladies. This book is a comprehensive companion to part of the series, their wise and witty observations, easy to follow directions and simply marvelous food.

This book was the product of a TV series written with the intention of rebelling against the modern industrialisation, consumerisation, industrial production and commercial debasement of food. The Ladies wittily and elegantly subvert what we are told to think about food with realistic, easy and absolutely delicious dishes, emphasizing the quality of ingredients (fom top-class fore-rib of beef to picking the very best from the butcher's affordable sausages) and the respectful care with which a cook should treat food. God, but I miss Jennifer Paterson;however, I've found SEASONAL RECEIPTS funny, informative and can hear her on every page--sort of Julia Child with an attitude.

Although I cannot always find ingredients she calls for---monkfish, for example, or mushroom sauce(whatever that is), I have made lots of the desserts--- sudden death[by chocolate]--a great one and a lemon kind of cake/custard--and the pumpkin soup--really good and unusual(at least to me) and can be made ahead and reheated in a crock pot.

None of the recipes is particularly difficult----maybe a novice cook would need to read them through more than once---but they are great fun to read, whether or not you plan on cooking anything. The book is divided into sections ... Read More:
