The best thing about this book is that the cute shiny scales on the fish are inspiring for doing fish projects with kids (draw a fish and stick on bits of foil for the scales).
The worst thing about this book is that it is a trendy fashionable book which is pushed by all the book sellers, but the story is drab, tedious, and quite frankly bizarre. In my opinion this kind of book takes all the fun out of kids stories. The fish has to give away his body parts to have friends. People can only be friends when they are all the same. What is that all about? I agree with a previous reviewer which says that there are better books about sharing out there. If you like books with a moral, but also with a beautifully constructed story, ... Read More:

Rainbow fish was the most beautiful fish in the sea... but he had to give out all his shinning scales to exchange happiness because otherwise all other fish swam away.
Well it could be about sharing but if you are reading from a different perspective - it seem accept being outstanding is not good. So an outstanding fish made no friend because others just jealous of him. In order to have friends and "happy", he has to come down to an ordinary one.
The book itself is nice and shinning so excellent except I don't like the context.

I bought this book for my 2-year-old, hoping to introduce to him the story behind Christmas. I was somewhat disappointed to find out that the story here was written with much older children in mind, as my son isn't able to understand a great many ideas and phrases ("they merged into a single magnificent star" or "the king rode forth from his palace, bearing precious gifts") used in the book.
However, there is one thing that keeps my son coming back to The Christmas Star and that is the shimmering star itself. We see it leading the shepherds and the kings to Bethlehem, making an appearance on every page. So while to me as an adult the book may not be everything I expected, my son enjoys it greatly and perhaps in a few year's time it will help him to learn ... Read More:

The Rainbow Fish address book is lovely. It was very difficult to find an address book which wasn't boring!
The illustrations are so pretty, it is a pleasure to use. It is also perfectly practical, as both the size of the book and the layout inside are good.
Perfect for any age.
