When my teenage son and I started playing the guitar I bought several 'teach yourself' books, and this is by far the best we found. It takes a refreshing, real-world approach to learning, offering plenty of encouragement (to keep you going through those early weeks of sore fingers) in the form of easy music and songs that you will be able to play from the very start. It also acknowledges that some things will be hard at first, and warns about them in advance. Despite this, it isn't 'dumbed-down', and is packed with far more information than the others we tried. Whether you want to play acoustic or electric; rock, folk, classical or jazz, there's everything here that you need to get started, and a good deal for the more experienced guitarist ... Read More:

Ok, i'll review this book in 2 parts:
Firstly, the sections on hardware, maintenance, and general info about electric guitars. I bought this book expecting not to use this section at all, but has since proved invaluable. It's great for answering all those questions you had about guitars and equipment but felt too stupid to ask in the shop (the sections on amps and effects pedals is brilliant), and the maintenance bit contains all the essentials and more for keeping your guitar in top nick. Full marks for this bit.
Secondly, the (more important) tuition part. I was expecting the rhythm guitar section to explain in depth rhythmic timings and power chords, i.e. things important to ROCK guitar. However it concentrates on ... Read More:

Right this is by far my favourite Metallica album. I bought this book along with the Master Of Puppets book when it first came out and it is awesome.
The best tabs i have found by far are by cherry lane. And this is really good. All the songs off the album are here and for the most of it the tablature is pretty much spot on. The thing i like about cherry lane books is the layout,it's very clear and easy to read and laid out well. Some tabs are frustrating as they are very large and you dont get much or enough to the page (hal leoanard being the worst) but cherry lane have got it pretty much spot on.
The riffs are really spot on and you will be able to learn the songs to a very satisfactory standard from these tabs. I know i did,i ... Read More:

As the title of this book suggests (Easy guitar) this is quite a basic book. i am an O.k guitarist just venturing into solos so i found this book pretty easy apart from a few songs, but don't get me wrong this book is good and when you play from it you think yeah that sounds good! you will not find any of those amazingly good solos written in this book. so if your a Metallica fan and a beginner i recommend this book if your a better guitarist then i suggest the more detailed books.
