The Very Hungry Caterpillar [Board Book]

If you love reading to your child, do not miss this book.

It is a delightful, humourous,dream-like surreal book, with a repetitive, poetic, chanting story.

It is (deservedly) a children's classic. Many reviewers here have tried to break down the different elements of this book.

What I would like to convey is the whole experience of reading the book which teaches a simple life experience to a child - which is highly spiritual, particularly the last pages where a riot of colour is the world through the eyes of a butterfly.

The story has optimism and beauty at its very core.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar: Book and Toy Gift Set

I was disappointed at the small size of the board book - even tiny fingers find it hard to poke through the holes munched by the caterpillar. The little toy is cute, I had thought that he would be able to 'eat his way through the holes in the pages', but as stated above the book is too small. Having said that , The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a classic enjoyed by my children 20 years ago and still popular today.

The Eric Carle Diary 2009 (Diary)

I love the Eric Carle diaries, they are bright, fun and very suitable for 'grown-ups'. The pictures are fun and there is lots of room to write every appointment for each day.
I had the 2008 diary and I think this years is even better.

I like the Hungry Caterpiller but this is even better. I've read it to my 6 month yr old daughter, mainly due to the variety of animal characters. Def one to buy!

He's 7 months old, and does not cease to enjoy this book. He wants to hear it over and over again, and is always happy and excited when we read it to him. If you only get one book for your baby- get this one!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar: Giant Board Book

I bought this as a gift for my niece aged 14 months. My own children have loved this book and I thought the gift set with a toy caterpillar to tunnel through the holes would be ideal. When it arrived there was a small sticker on the back stating the toy was not suitable for under threes due to small parts. Am I alone in assuming that a board book gift set is specifically targetted at under threes?? And if it's not suitable for its apparent age group you might get some warning before you buy it?? So be warned before you too have the hassle of returning this item!

We got the board book version of this book out of the library for our nearly two year old, and she loves it! The illustrations are fun and colourful, and the story is simple with easy rhymes and repetition. A perfect book to read aloud at the end of the day.

I read this book outside, inside, on trains, on bikes, on walks, in cars, busses and ghost trains, but my favourite place to read this book is.......on the toilet. It's the best book ever and anyone out there who hasn't heard of the very hungry caterpillar should STARVE to death!!
