I purchased the CD on the back of the two previous reviews. However, I must say I found the CD disappointing on two counts. Firstly, the stories could have been better written, and secondly the narrator's voice lacks resonance, age, depth call it what you will. Compared to several CD's I have purchased here in Germany on Greek Sagas, which score high in these two categories, I can't imagine that I will be listening very much to the CD again.

This is that rare thing - something to keep kids (aged 8 and 5 in our case) and parents happy in the car at the same time. The stories are classics, but simply and compellingly told by a young actor with a good voice - not pompous, not irritating. His reading is backed up with stirring music which really builds the atmosphere - bits of Holst's Planets for the Gods and Titans stories, for example. The pace is quick, and there is so much material the kids ask to hear this one again and again - it's never boring, and it's not just interesting the first time - it works over and over. Adults too get drawn into the stories with pleasure, whether they half remember them or come to them new.
