Great for car journeys, well produced, and lots of interesting stuff. Recommended for children 8 plus. My 10, 14 and 18 year old all enjoy these Naxos books, and so do their parents.
Well done naxos.

This audio CD book, alongside with other Naxos educational CDs for children, is absolutely fantastic. It contains loads of information, so adults interest is guaranteed as well as children's fascination. It's a must for curious little minds. Presented in an easy listening format, it educates and enterntains at the same time. Boring car journeys became a highly enjoyable and educational experiences in our family since Naxos CDs were purchased. Being non-fiction, they can be listened to over and over again, offering a chance for the child to remember and/or understand more details each time.

If any other 'reviewer' tells you that it's 'taxing' ignore them- everything is explained in plain English in a clear and concise fashion, without dumbing down.

Don't be fooled by the title, this book doesn't just cover the historical Arthurian period. It takes you through from the end of Roman Britain right up to the end of Anglo-Saxon England, taking in the rise of the Saxon kingdoms and the coming of the Norsemen along the way.
Trying to cram so much history into so few pages is never easy, especially with the inclusion of Irish and Pictish affairs, so the book never manages to touch upon the subject in any great depth. Having said that, Osprey's distinguished list of books on military history are only intended as broad introductions, and this book fulfils that role pretty well.
The only downside is that so much of the interpretation within is now out of date; it could really do with a ... Read More:

Good illustrations although, typically of McBride, they are rather fantastic and most of the subjects seem to be modelled on Swarzenegger! The main text is very synoptic in the first half and does not go into much more detail in the second, instead elaborating on the ethnic groups recruited by the Byzantines. The book would be more interesting if it included more historical content or at least a chronology. The achievements of Belisarius and Narses are some of the greatest in military history but they are only mentioned in passing, and only in the context of army organisation.
