Friends Like These

Pretty much disappointed with this one. Yes Man and Join Me were '5*' excellent and so I was quick to buy this latest offering but I'm pretty much disappointed. There's no doubt that there are a few gems hidden away in here but not enough to make me want to keep turning the pages. Like another review, I too was about to give up after a couple of hundred pages but continued on. Once I finished each chapter, I just wasn't interested in reading the next. It was a struggle with too many names of 'characters' thrown into the book to keep up with. I like a page turner and this isn't one of them. Saying that, if you just need a book to pick up and read when you have a little time to spare, then this could be just what you need.

Yes Man

Well here's one of those books that could change the world, were enough people to read it and embrace its simple philosophy of saying "yes" to whatever life presents them and going after treats like some tongue-hanging cute and lovable dog. Danny's an innocent - gullible, even - and I guess that's why he succeeds, because he perseveres where the more sensible of us would fail. But, to prove the point, he's the one that ends up happily married and on TV - and if that's not enough to make people want to say "yes" more I don't know what is. Certainly it's got me inspired - I just hope the inspiration lasts longer than the few hours it usually does after whatever life-affirming movie/book I've just digested. everything about danny wallaces projects seems very contrived, and false, it fairly obvious he approaches everything in a much more cynical way then his writing suggests, it seems much more likely he sits donw and thinks about the slimmest possible concept that he can get a book or tv series out of, the writing is of a very sixth form comedy style, and he realy forces up the word count to squeeze a book out of this material.
having somehow managed to get through the whole thing, i found it completely forced and just cant imagine what people find funny about this, the writing certainly isnt funny, the concept would possibly be if it were true, but its so obviously contrived, the observations are mundane, and pedestrian.

I wouldn't really call it a book as a book is the "main course" in my opinion its a "Starter". He gives serveral examples on how to be nice. Which is good, but most are very difficult to actually complete. I would recommened trying to come up with your own way of being lovely rather than wasting £5.

No, really, don't!
I read it yesterday during my breaks on a course I was on, but, unfortunately, did not realize for some time that the other people in the room, all strangers, were giving me some very odd looks and edging away because, totally engrossed and loving another Leader Classic I was laughing out loud, often, and loudly. Oh dear.
However, those warnings in mind, I would absolutely recommend this one. It's very short but very, very funny. Trust me. It is.

they were probably posted by the authors' friends. There is no other explanation for those positive ratings. This is the first book in years I've stopped reading after forcing myself through the first one hundred pages. Boring, boring, boring. Two guys overstretch a very weak story to make a book and they do so by narrating it in such a ghastly way that you start hating yourself for having fallen for the reviewers' hype. I had my doubts but I decided to believe the "readers" ratings. Believe me, there is no way in hell so many people can honestly have found this book to be funny, interesting or in any way readable. Based on this book I wish to never ever meet anyone called Dave Gorman. Ah yes, it took two to fabricate it! Gawd... What I do mind is how rudely and egotistically ... Read More:
