I bought I Before E and I Used to Know That earlier in the year as I need to brush up spelling, general knowledge etc as my godchildren keep asking me awkward homework questions!!!! I had an email from Amazon recommending this book so for a fiver I thought why not!
Very interesting read, I have to say I opened it with a great deal of fear as I always thought Grammar was a bit of a bore - but this book was both funny and informative - that has to be a first when it comes to Grammar :)
Broken down into basic chapters such as spellings and confusables, sentence structure, punctuation, speech and my own personal favourite odds and sods I now feel I know what I am talking about - hopefully my godchildren will now think I am genius!

I found this book to be very useful as it has got every bit of useful information you could possible want .It is like an encyclopedia only smaller .

Having usually bought either W & A or The Writers' Yeabook, I decided to give this a go. The first time I read it a chunk of pages came loose, others followed so I have now had to separate the sections and hole punch and fasten them together. Not a bad idea really, as the book itself is too large to carry around so this way I can just take out the relevant sections. As for the information in the book, I think there is a lot of useful stuff but a lot of other that is irrelevant. The advice is no different than can be obtained from writing magazines or websites. There are a lot of different markets listed that are not in the other references, but there are also some of the better known publications that are not even listed. Think I will stick to ...
