Brita Elemaris Cool Black Water Filter Jugfrom: Brita Water Filter Systems Ltd Like many Brita products, this jug carries the digital countdown timer which tells you when you "need" a new Maxtra cartridge. This is very misleading for 2 reasons: 1. It assumes you run way through the jug several times a day (which I don't - I only fill it every other day). 2. It implies that Maxtra cartridges cease to function after 4 weeks of regular use (they don't - I've checked the water quality using a conductivity probe at work - they're good for a fair bit longer than that!). The above two problems can mean you'd spend a fortune on the Maxtra cartridges, which don't come cheap, but if you ignore the timer and change the cartridge when the water starts to taste unfiltered, it's fine.
