Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The grandaddy
What can I say about this game, its the best! Its the original WW2 shoot'em up, its format has been copied so many times but for me no matter what title you give a war game it always comes back to this.

I just love everything about it, so many hours in my childhood were spent charging Jim Patterson around, single-handedly saving mankind from Nazi rule, OK so he's a yank you can't have it all ways (the commanding officer's British though, hazar!). Seriously though the gameplay (as with so many 'pre-next-gen' games) is brilliant and it really feels like a lot of work went into the research side of things as well as making the levels challenging but also quite fun as well. The atmosphere of this game is great too, if you've never played it before the first time is a great experience, never knowing when or where you're going to have to open fire on the German war machine, whether there's a dragons nest around the corner or a gestapo officer taking a whizz! And if that wasn't enough to get the juices flowing just listen to the music when you're playing, you can forget this next generation graphics, if you want excitement play this with the lights low and the volume up - I guarantee you'll be up all night!

I'v never played a war game with such a great blend of excitement and humour, it takes itself seriously but in a fun way. The levels are imaginative and if you look and listen carefully you might actually learn a few things about the war they didn't teach you in GCSE history. The game rewards you with stars and medals for your good work in each level until you finally reach the coveted Medal of Honour (although Jim Patterson should at least be made President for everything he does in the game) Anyways, one of my all time favourite games on any console, good luck soldier!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Who needs PS3 or X-Box 360
I've never been a sheep and don't intend to become one, I won't be rushing out to spend hundreds of pounds on a new console. I bought Medal of honour CHEAP! on amazon in mint condition and it's easily the best PS1 game ever.

It's not your average beat em up shoot em up, it's most like "goldeneye" on the N64 but a bit deeper. Problem solving and stealthy tactics are required and shooting accuracy increase your ratings. What is good is that it's based on true events which gives it much more credibility. I've just got the follow up "medal of honour underground" and I can't wait to get started.

Try it please and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of the reasons to keep your PSone
In this modern age of next generation consoles, be they the Xbox/PS2s or the Xbox 360s, it's sometimes easy to forget how much fun there was to be had on the older consoles. I came to the PSone late in the day, having resisted the urge to adopt early. But this is easily one of the games that keeps me coming back. There's simply too much fun to be had with this type of game - and it's companion piece, MOH 'Underground'. Sure, the graphics are limited by modern standards, yes the AI could be improved and, go on then, it's all a bit linear. But who really cares? This game knows what it's trying to be - a simple shooter with a super-atmospheric setting. The sounds & settings are what make this game for me, plus there's a definite sense of humour at play - something that seems to have been lost in MOH 'Frontline' with its more serious undertones. Great fun and a real reason to dust off the old consoles for bit of good, clean nostalgic fun!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Classic shooter but a bit easy and a few flaws
I've just re-played this game for the first time in 5 years and it doesn't seem to have aged too well but if you're looking for a first-person shooter for the PS1 it's certainly worth a look.

The game has a decent storyline meaning you always want to get on to the next mission. The missions and settings are quite well varied for a game of this type. The cut scenes are good and there is reasonably accurate historical content (although from an American perspective).

The graphics were impressive back in 1999 but are now incredibly dated. The sound, however is still very impressive. The orchestral score is fantastic - incredibly atmospheric and can really build the tension at certain points in the game. The entire range of sound effects are also top notch - incredibly realistic with both foreground action such as gunfire and explosions to background effects like planes passing overhead and distant voices. Its a shame it isn't in Dolby surround though.

The controls took some time to get used to again. One stick controls the left and right movement of the gun as well as moving the soldier forward and back; the other controls the up and down movement of the gun as well as left and right strafing. It would seem to me to make more sense to have all of the gun movement on one stick but there you go! It does encourage you to stop and use the aiming function which I suppose is what you would really have to do in WWII! There are a number of flaws in the gameplay which would not be acceptable in games released now - things like getting stuck behind invisible barriers, not being able to shoot through railings, walls disappearing etc. I also found it a little annoying that bullet-holes would always appear as stone chips - great if you shoot a wall but not so great if you're shooting wood, glass or even sometimes thin air!

The main problem with the game however is how easy it is! It seems to pride itself on it's realism but you can charge down a corridor at 3 or 4 enemies who will all shoot you a number of times but as long as you kill them, you will collect back more ammo than you used up and around the next corner there will be a medi-pack! This means there is really no point playing with any stealth. There are some nice touches like if you shoot a helmet, it will fly off but again, realism is lacking where it still takes 3 body shots with a rifle to kill an enemy at point blank range!

As a bit of a brainless shoot 'em up, this is still a great game to play and the atmosphere and historical content do add interest but it could do with being a little more difficult (less medi packs and ammo would make it more of a realistic challenge) and there are a few glitches you will need to ignore. Overall, a classic game that almost holds its own!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The guns, the blood, the glory!!!!
This is a great game! As soon as I started playing it I thought WOW! You even get to use german mounted machine guns that sit sand bagged at the side of the road...simply wait for a few Nazis to come round the corner and cut the down in a blaze of fire! A definite must for stress relief after a hard day at the office!
